Learn the nuts and bolts of Ships US’ package forwarding service

It’s a common problem for anyone interested in purchasing items online in the U.S. who happens to live abroad: how to have packages delivered to you when the stores will not ship outside of the United States. Fortunately, with Ships US, there is a way to get your purchases sent directly to you through our USA package forwarding service. We provide you with a unique American address where you can have your packages sent, and then send the items on to you at your direction.

While it sounds simple, many people have questions about how our USA package forwarding works. For example, our customers often want to know how quickly their packages will be shipped once they arrive at our secure facility. Most packages are sent out within two to three business days of receipt, unless you request a different shipment schedule, such as asking us to hold or consolidate your packages. We will store packages for all of our members for at least seven days, free of charge. In terms of when you will get your items, that will depend on a number of factors, such as the USA package forwarding service chosen (USPS, FedEx, DHL, UPS or other carrier), the type of service that you have selected, and the customs procedures in your country.

We do open all packages that arrive at our facility for two reasons. First, we check the item for any signs of damage and to make sure that the right item has been sent (comparing it to the invoice, if one has been provided). Second, we confirm that the package does not contain any prohibited items. There are certain items that are illegal to export from the United States or to import into other countries, such as firearms, hazardous materials, alcohol, prescription medicine, perishable foods, animals or animal skin products, or tobacco. We can ship items that are considered dangerous if they are properly labeled and packaged. We simply ask that you notify us if a package contains potentially dangerous goods such as ammunition, lighters, oil-based paint, chemicals, perfume, solvents, and matches.

Ships US does not have any limit on the size, shape or weight of the package that it will accept for its USA package forwarding service, provided that your carrier of choice will accept the package. However, your Ships US address can only be used for USA package forwarding, and not for other purposes, such as applying for passports or for correspondence (unless you have signed up for mail forwarding as part of our First Class Membership).
